NYTimes Article: Arts Programs in Academia Are Forced to Nip Here, Adjust There (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/10/arts/10cuts.html?_r=1)

"If you are looking for a sign of how strapped the University of California (http://topics.nytimes.com/topics/reference/timestopics/organizations/u/university_of_california/index.html?inline=nyt-org), Los Angeles, is for cash, consider that its arts and architecture school may resort to holding a bake sale to raise money."

It's too bad how the art programs are being affected, although I can't say that generally, most public state universities had great fine art programs to begin with.
