View Full Version : Favorite CAF movies
TraceR 08-10-2009, 03:24 AM So, what were your 3 favorite Computer Animation Festival videos? Mine:
1. Live Music
2. Window Pains
3. Fight for Kisses
There were a lot of good ones this year. Alma was another one I thought was really well done.

That's a tough one. There were some really strong animations this year and I was impressed with a majority of the films. But, if i must choose, here would be my top 3:
1. Window Pains
2. French Roast
3. Pigeon: Impossible

In all seriousness, THANK YOU SO MUCH to everyone who came and enjoyed the festival - I can't tell you how good it felt to hear people laughing at my film. And if any of the CAF staff happen to see this, I can't tell you how grateful I am to you, too.
As for favorites, there was so much variety (so many great films!), it's hard to nail down a "Top 3" with one at the top. Here are the three I remember best:
Funniest: Pigeon Impossible (I loved the concept, the timing, and especially the pigeon's performance.)
Best Visuals: ITFS Spot Colorflow (Most "abstract-imagery-set-to-music" films aren't really my thing, but this one was gorgeous.)
Best... not really sure how to categorize it, but I loved it: Who's Gonna Save My Soul (The concept was surprising, hilarious, and completely relatable; the VFX were well executed, and they fit the story perfectly.)
I could go on and on about all the other shorts I loved, but I'll leave it at that.

Yea patfour, your animation was really top notch. I loved the voices!
Anyone happen to see Tezcatlipoca by Robin George? Don't think it was played in the evening theatre but it was in one of the student film showings. Want to give it props cause it was done by a classmate of mine; plus it's really good.

Oh man, TraceR - it had slipped my mind, but I did see that! It was stunning, especially in HD on the big screen. Were the two names in the credits (other than the academic advisement) the only people working on it? The film is impressive regardless of the crew, but if it was just two students... wow.
And thanks again for the kind words. I was really lucky to have great talent from SCAD's performing arts department for my characters; I don't think it would've been nearly as strong without their voice acting.

Yea, Robin George did everything himself except for the lava effects which were done by Chris Wombold, which makes it all the more impressive. Just means I have a higher standard to live up to.

Patfour, it's great to see you here on this thread! You seriously created one of my favorite short films of all time. The character development and story were absolutely spot on. I couldn't stop laughing...and everyone I've shown it too thinks the same. People at my work, friends, and people who don't know crap about CG.
Congratulations on such a successful film man! You should truly be proud of yourself. I can't wait to see more work come from you.
All the best!

I have to vote for "Unbelieveable Four". Especially when I saw how short the credits were.

I wish I got to see Tezcatlipoca at Siggraph, I saw the clip before I got to the conference and I was so surprised at the artistry and uniqueness of the story. The tone reminded me of Disney's fantasia a little bit. Wherever you are, great job Robin George!
