I would like to know if there´s a best software or way to create gaseous phenomenons, like fire, explosions and son on, than Maya Fluids?
Probably an stupid question but In a newbie to Maya Fluids, just giving the first steps.
But please someone explain me if I´m wrong:
Real Flow is best to liquid simulations;
Maya Fluids for gaseous phenomenons;
NParticles for dynamic effects.
I´m right?
Thanks in advance

You actually have it nailed. That workflow is quite accurate, especially if you are just starting out. I would suggest, taking a look at Houdini's 10 new pyro tools down the road if you wanted a bit more advanced workflow for gaseous phenomenons . It's more stable than maya's fluid solver.

Just to throw a spanner in the works....Realflow is probably the best, but nParticles isn't too bad at water. You could get away with using nParticles water for cartoon work absolutely, but for realism > Realflow.

nParticles are missing a few attributes which hopefully they will build on on future releases.

Was looking at Duncan's tech talk on the Area blog. He had a few Nparticle demonstrations that were quite nice. Have not played with Nparticles much, but by the looks of it, you can get some nice fluid looks and selfshadowing, with the correct workflow.

Houdini is a good choice, although currently quite slow.

Max's FumeFX suite is quite impressive, too.

I´ve never worked with Houdini or Max.
Only Maya

I would recommend Houdini for fluids,Pyro tools are great and very cutomizable.

I have written a walkthrough of how to make quite detail steam with fluids,and also talk about my views of maya fluids and pyro:

Hi Miko,
I just wanted to mention that the article you wrote about Maya's and Houdini's fluid solvers was awesome. It had really good information in there. Thanks for sharing.
