View Full Version : A color replacement question
keight 08-02-2003, 10:00 PM I did this detail piece in Photoshop v5.0.2, using percentages of black. It was sort of a last minute rush job for the client, so, to minimize reworking, I used as many layers as possible, stock brushes, and only 2 filters. Now there is the opportunity to have it reproduced in color.

My question is, is there a way to replace the grey values with color that is faster than chucking the thing and starting clean? I haven’t yet been able to find the pertinent info in my manual, and I’ve got 3 WIPs and one more finished piece hanging on the answer.
From now on, in this type of situation, I’ll work in color, check value levels and contrast, then desaturate these things.

two options:
-Use the hue/saturation action, select grayscale, increase saturation and slide the hue to the color wanted. It makes everything one tone, so this may not be for you.

And yeah, always work in color. The only guy i know who starts grayscale, then colors it and gets amazing stuff is Tommy Lee.

Thank you for the advice. I'll let you know whether or not it did work.
It's always dumb things like this that bite you the hardest.

Thanks, DogmaD, both for the asist and especially for posting that url!
I had just gotten that url from Sir Greensock, via email. Thanks again guys!
Adi Granov's work is gorgeous. What really got to me was that we both prefer the same tools! So far, Granov's tutorial is solving my problem.
Alevice, I'm looking forward to trying your idea as well.

An update. :wavey:
The "Before" version is the illustration as it was used in the Pax Draconis core book. The "After" version shows what I've done with your advice and suggestions.
