(Im a 3D artist doing some compositing on the side)

Is there a faster way of applying an effect to a certain part of layer using a matte?

Now I use 3 layers:

-original layer+effect (track matte using the illumination from matte layer below)
-the matte
-original layer

This way I can adjust the color a chair or something.

This doesn't feel like an economical way of doing it.. is there some way to tell an effect directly to only do its thing on the matted area?

That's just how it works... Of course you can use the matte as an adjustment layer (if it has proper Alpha) and apply your effects to it, but naturally adjustments affect everything below, not just a single layer...

Thx! that will work in my case (I've got to fix 14 shots so this will def. save me some time! )
