View Full Version : Car Animation Help
hl-artist 08-02-2003, 08:25 PM Hi, im just working on a personal project and I seem to be stuck on the animation process, I have rigged the car to my needs, but cannot seem to make it look real as of now i'm only using the auto key feature with 3ds Max 5 because i dont know any of the other ways of creating an animation. I am just looking to make the car burnout, then start, and drift abit, ive got the brunout part done but I am stuck on the moving of the car, I once saw some script thing that made it so when the car's main dummy is moved the wheel dummies rotated to spin the wheels. I really need help ASAP thank you.
PS. I have Searched and tried the Vehicle rigging discussion and found that I couldn't apply it to what i'm looking to achieve.

As far as I know , Max 6 will have vehicle dynamics feature...I had same problems about car animations like you , all I could think about animating frame by frame after rigging ...
You can try Rolling1.7 free script for wheel animation , this scripts rotates the wheels as the distance traveled..but for a burning thing , you have to do some manual animation ... for body animation try manually frame by frame...I know this sucks but I couldnt find another solution....

To do a burnout you could try to make the diameter of the object in the script smaller then the actual diameter, making the wheel rotating faster.
The swithing from burnout to normal rpm's is a bit harder probably, as I don't assume the diameter value is animatable. Haven't tried yet though, so you can always give it a go.

I wonder if this plugin is Max 5.x compatible. Does anyone know? I thought I would save myself some headaches by asking before actually trying it.

Works with mine. It's a script btw, not a plugin.
