I was watching a Keith Lango video a while back and he was trying to use soft mod as a deformer but ended up using a mel script because soft mod is so...errr.... idiosynchractic.
I stumbled upon another approach recently and wondered if anyone had tried it/rejected it.
simply I create lattices with 1 division. I parent the lattice under the base and parent the base to my head bone then scale the base to exactly the area of deformation which might be quite small like a lip corner. you can then use the lattice itself like a cluster but it also has the effect -like soft mod- of having an animatable falloff and it has no problems with being in the hierarchy like a softmod does
ive attached a file...sorry for the crappy fbik animation lol
interested to hear if people think this is a good substitute or not...
