View Full Version : Just got LW... worried
digitalshaman 08-02-2003, 02:24 PM Well i just got LW, and i'm waiting for my hardware lock lo be sent to me... at the moment i'm running in 'discovery mode' which is fine... but the hub isnt noticiing layout nor modeller.
Guess what i'm on OS X, i bet that has something to do with it.
So nether layout and modeller are syncing.
Also i'm using usboverdrive with my with my logitech mouse. but rightclick and middleclick seem to do the same thing... i thought MMB popped up a menu, and RMB did something else..
PLEASE HELP
thanks dudes

are you sure the dongle is installed and the drivers for it are installed as well ?
When I got my LW it told me I had 14 days to input the reg key and worked in full mode. That was on a PC though.
In discovery mode the hub doesn't work AFAIK
Button menus are user configurable

The Hub works in OSX and in demo mode but it is turned off from the start. Don't ask my why?
But you can turned it on.
Close all your LW programs.
Now look the the same folder you find your Lightwave programs and you will find two dokument named "LightWave cmdline" and "Modeler cmdLine".
Open them in a texteditor and delete the text "-0".
Now start Layout and your Hub will work. I hope :)

neither of those files have the '-O'.
They're just empty
so i guess the hub isnt working cos its in demo mode, but shuold it be in demo mode if it can see my dongle?
Meshbuilder, when u got LW did u have a 14 day full mode, or just demo mode?
Also do plugins not load in demo mode?

i'd ask tech support cause something weird going on from teh sounds of it - likewise i got 14 days or so to get my license key doohickey but it ran in full mode not discovery mode
again though i'm on pc not mac but i doubt they would be mean to mac users for no reason

I don't remember, this was almost a half a year ago.
We called Newtek europe and asked them to give us the licens code and they send it to us right away by fax i think.
Hang in there you will get your licens soon. Give them a call and see if they can speed up the process. :)

Do you have your dongle ( small purple thing about the size of your little finger that plugs into a USB port )? Your first post said that you were waiting for your Hardware Lock this should have been in the box with your CD and manuals... If you are waiting for your permanent license key that is something different it's a code that you will have to use to replace your temp license key with. Newtek has fairly good a phone support when not at Siggraph so give them a call Monday, and I am sure they will get you up and rolling.
If you did not get a Hardware lock with your purchase I would be going back to where you bought it and asking for a refund or replacement as with out the Hardware lock you are not going to get very far.
Hope it works out.
HARDWARE LOCK = Dongle

Did you try holding down the Command/Control key while middle and right mouse clicking?

There are a few more steps to installing the plugin-
If you just want to make sure it is there, or will not be using a particular plugin very often. You can find it under the Construct tab, then at the bottom under Utility (additional). That's a listing of the plugins you have installed currently.
Now to put it somewhere. You decide where you want the buttons to show up. (be sure to notice what the names of the plugins that got installed are. Some plugins consist of a few different "buttons" that do different things.
Now go to: Modeler>Interface>Edit Menu Layout
Click on the triangle to the left of Additional (top left)
It will drop down a list of installed plugins. Find the one you want, in this case magicbevel.
In the left window (it helps to first collapse everthing) you can find a listing of the buttons. It is seperated into (bottom edge, top menu group, LMB, RMB, MMB)
Under Main menu there are a list of the tabs at the top, pick the one where you want the magicbevel button to go.(lets say multiply) Under multiply there are extend combine and duplicate, if you open extend you see bevel, extrude etc.
Now you are ready to drag your magicbevel button over.
Click and drag it and drop it on top of the Extend line.
It should appear with a bullet point next to it, Probably above Bevel. You can drag it below bevel now if you like. or place it elsewhere in the list.
Hit done and look under your multiply tab. Your set.
