View Full Version : Where can I get the GeiL Pen Drive USB driver for Win9x?

For some stupid reason, GeIL never posted up a section on their site for drivers for their pendrive line of products (http://www.geilusa.com). I am using their 256MB USB 2.0 Pen drive and have recently found the need for the Windows9x driver. Sadly, I don't have that driver nor can I find any place that has it. Can anyone give me a hand in finding a driver for this? I really need it.

I don't know about Win98 drivers, and it's been a while for me using that OS, but didn't Win98 have really lousy USB mass-storage device support? It is quite possible that there are no 9X drivers, because Win98 can't use the device. I read in one of your posts above that you are pulling off Win2K because it's too slow? There probably isn't a huge performance drop between Win98 and Win2K is there?

Win 98 was such a POS, I would rather deal with a slow Win2K than a fast Win98.

There is annother option: Have you considered Linux? Redhat 9 is AWESOME on a laptop. I use it on my old 366MHz P2 Sony Vaio laptop.

have you tried another manufacturer's driver? no guarantees it'll work, but you might get lucky.

Actually, this thing works on Win9x because I use it @ work where my cubicle is forced with Win98. Back then, I had the driver CD on hand and it worked fine.

and as for using another driver from another manufacturer, I might try IBM... but the problem is that I'm not even sure what's a good equivalent. If anyone can provide a good equivalent, that would be good.

And as for the POS of Win98, I agree whole heartedly that the OS is lousy. But this laptop I'm using is just sooooooo slooooooow and cannot handle much. It's an AMD K6-2 450MHz with 192MB of PC... something PC100 or below. IT's using a 6GB hard drive of some sort and a trident video card. Timing Win2K, after it got into the initial logon screen, it takes 2 minutes (I had a stop watch) for the hard drive to stop spinning loading up all the system services and getting into the OS. And being that I'm simply a poor student without funds to get a good upgrade (unless one of u folks wants to help me and buy all my old junk I have on ebay, just look up http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewSellersOtherItems&userid=singularity2006&include=0&since=-1&sort=3&rows=50 :) ), I am stuck with this current laptop. On another note, I need to replace my battery but don't have the 100 USD to spare.... it no longer holds a charge so I'm permanently wired. But yeah, it got really annoying when my laptop crashed with win2K (which is rare) during a class presentation and I would have to wait about 5 minutes, counting boot time, then windows loading time, to get the presentation going again... very bad dead time. =(

sadly my friend, that is actually a driver from another manufacturer. I've tried 5 diff manufacturers, and none work... I need the original one from GeiL! I can't believe their site has no support for it! And their tech support has NEVER emailed me back... this is really getting ridiculous. =( Anyhow, PenDrive 2.0 is the hardware classification of this removable sux0r. Pen Drive is the brand name used by a company. So yah, that isn't the one.. i thought it was too but it never worked. =T I can't phreaking believe I lost the driver CD... *sigh*

damn, screw this.... I'm probably just gonna revert my laptop back to 2K.... I'm gonna test around and see how it goes.... my other thread covers my issues with partitioning if anyone wants to give a shot at it.
