View Full Version : PowerDVD Error!
Valkyrien 08-02-2003, 04:05 AM Every time I try to play a DVD in PowerDVD, the program tells me it's encountered an error and must close. I've reinstalled, used the system diagnostic (it found nothing wrong), and it still doesn't work! I even went to my last resort of using WMp and hoping I might be able to get a random screencap with it, but WMp won't even play. I hit okay and it says "Finished" and if I try to play titles individually, they just change to red!
anyone have any clue what's going on?

I've had that error a lot too with PowerDVD, WinDVD and basically anything from a third party vendor. Are u by chance, running an ATI video card of some sort? I think it's an incompatibility of sorts with their driver because ever since I switched to MMC 8.5 and their DVD player for it, all my DVD's have worked just fine.

Are you using a dual-processor system? Regular version of powerDVD doesn't work on dual processors (or on dual athlons in combination with nvidia cards or some crap like that - can't recall exact details). I know Boxx has a corrected version of PowerDVD that they supply to teir customers, but I don't know where to get it if you don't have a Boxx. Maybe the vendor has a patch.
[edit] Not sure if it's legal for me to give it to you - but it works with same serial numbers as the version on CD. I guess tecnically you already own it anyway.

We've had the exact same error with it though. It wouldn't work no matter what until we downloaded a patched version. It has to be some compatibility issue.

It does sound like a driver or DLL problem. I would recomend getting the latest drivers from Nvidia (remember to uninstall your old drivers before installing the new ones :) ), and checking if there is a patch available from Cyberlink.
I know Cyberlink has reciently released version 5 of PowerDVD. Maybe you might want to upgrade to that.
Hope that helps.
