Does anyone know of an online tutorial (or is will to do a quick how to) for gear animation?

I realise it's very easy to key frame something like this, but here's what I want to do...

gear "a" = ratio of 1
gear "b" = ratio 1.5

I want one gear to rotate at a given speed and a second gear (smaller) to rotate at 1.5 times that speed, and be adjustable. In that if i alter the speed of "a", "b" automatically updates.

Is there a quick way to set this up?
there's a great way to do pistons with look at constraints I was wondering if there's something just as easy for doing gears?

thanks for any help

I guess you can just wireparameter the angle of gear a with the angel of gear b. Then multiply the angle in the wireparameter dialog box with 1.5

Hi Ian,

Take a look into "Expression Controllers". Expressions will allow you to make the parameters of one object the function another objects parameters and is used to accomplish exactly what you are asking about.

Wish I had more time to help, but I hope this gets you pointed in the right direction.

johnny_riptide is right

:side note:
the piston animation thing u mentioned, you don't need a look at controller, just set IK restrictions

Hey guys,
thanks for the help. Yeah expressions were the way (or one way) to go. I found a tutorial at bobo's site..

which pretty much covers it.:applause:
