View Full Version : Anyone know what the strength value for the gravity space warp really means?

The force value is just a number without a name or units. Does anyone know what that force number is supposed to represent?

Well, welcome to max. I really would love to see some clarification on some of that myself. I love reactor. It's default gravity is like -367 or something. What?

I also love how some paramters in max are from 0 to 1, and then some are 0 to 100...It's like there where 2 different teams with 2 different standards.

That's the overall problem, I think. I mean, max's default units are very odd. I remember reading about the math a bit, and it's crazy. Ever try to export to obj? Anyway...

Sorry I can't answer your question, but I've always wanted to take a minute and bitch about that.

3DZealot is right. max can be alittle crazy at times.
anway to answer your question, i would say 1.0=earth gravity, and go from there

reactor gravity is very simple to understand.
so if you remember some physics lessons at school you may know that earth gravity is 9,81 N/kg. it is also mentioned in the reactor manual. ;)
so your gravity depends on your world scale.
for example: you set your worldscale like this: 1 meter in max is 1 meter in reality, you have to enter -9,81 in the gravity section on the desired axis (z i suppose). if you have 10 meters in max is 1 meter in reality, enter -98,1.
the value -367 is standart because reactor uses a inch setup as standart for gravity, world scale and collision tolerance.

i think leaving this unit out is no mistake, because gravity is always measured in N/kg and it is also a pro that you can customize reactor to the units you prefer.

i agree that the reactor manual is nearly total crap, but with some luck and time you can read this out

Agreed. And it sometimes gets worse. On the motion panel, you can clearly see that the normal range for a list controller's sub-controller weight channel is 0.0-100.0. But throw an expression or script controller on the same channel and it goes flippin' crazy if you use the same range; you have to use 0.0-1.0! I think the same might be true for constraint weights, though I'm not sure. Very annoying, in any case:hmm:

What about the gravity spacewarp though?
