View Full Version : Rhino model, Max Render, why?
jwilk 08-01-2003, 07:17 PM I posted this on a finished gallery thread but I think it got missed.
I have seen several times nice renderings of models created in Rhino. I use Rhino some but not Max but know Rhino's rendering is far from the quality of Max or Lightwave. What I wonder is do people really spend $3500 for max just to use it for rendering?. If people own Max why not do the modeling in Max? Is the Max modeler that bad?

rhino has max kicked in the crotch when it comes to nurbs modelling. quite powerful. but.. thats all it does. there is a new renderer for rhino, but its not a proven renderer as of yet.
max's nurbs are so damn bad that its common for people to:
a- not use nurbs. ever.
b- buy a companion program for max, so that they can have a good set of tools for all around use.
its just the best way to reliably get a good nurns model into max, thast all

just think of rhino as a plug-in.

Usually, people I know, using MAX, and Rhino, model things in both applications. They use MAX whenever they can, but when it comes to NURBS, Rhino is the answer. They never render in Rhino, just do the modelling. Texturing, materialsetup, and rendering in MAX... In many cases together with the rest of the scene modelled in MAX.
The MAX NURBS implementation is a bit, uhmm, well, buggy, and slow, and unreliable.... :annoyed: (However, with some healthy level of masochism, you can create great models though...)
So, yep, Rhino is as a "plugin", a big one. :D
