If i have an airplane built up from various surfaces, and i want it to collide against something how can i make it break apart if it is grouped together? when it hits the other object its just bouncing around instead of breaking apart. i purposely broke the object up into many surfaces but still it bounces as one.

any ideas?

Did you make each individual piece an active rigid body?

ok that works but what if i wanted to then apply a gravity field, do i apply it to the group or to each piece individually?

when i do it to each piece it gets messed up. and when i do it to all it wont work?

You have to select the rigid bodies and apply the gravity field.

In order to keep the objects together till they are ready to be crashed give then keyframes up to the point of impact.
