View Full Version : locking an object's SRT ?
seb4d 08-01-2003, 05:21 PM Hi,
maybe I am stupid or don't understand the doc, but I can't find out how to lock an object's SRT so that it is imposible to make changes on them.
In Maya I always use it, just right-click in the channel box and choose Lock.
How can you do it in XSI please ?
Please forgive me if this is a stupid question, I don't mean to bother you :p

Hey not sure if you can lock them per say but you could freeze the applixable transforms so that if you accidently move it you just need to evter 0 and it will snap back... maybe you already use this don't know.... hope it helps

It's a solution, but my SRT aren't 1 0 0 and I need their values so I can't freeze them.
For the moment I just put the objects in a layer with selectability unchecked.

yes, I miss this too, but I accustomed to it
you can give constrains to the objects, and use cnsCompensate, but it's not a solution, especially if you have working constrains.

Just incase you don't know. Each object's selectability can be toggled under the visibility/viewing property. Just open the explorer, select the object, double click the visibility prop, and switch.

You can also put transformation limits. Open the Local Kinematics ppg for the object, go in Position/Rotation Limites tab. Set the same values in minimum and maximum, and there you go, the transformation is locked.

You can also open up the local kinematic ppg of the object (ctrl+k) and set a blank expression. Just right click on the divot of the said parameter and choose set expression, close the expression editor if it pops open. Baaam, that parameter is now locked in it's current state and can not be transformed.

As an addendum to RickW's excellent suggestion, press Ctrl when you Rt-Click the little divot. This will create an empty expression, without the editor popping up, so you can work even faster.

there is a "lock" script on my site which you also can use.

It's made by Bradley Gabe. I've also made a few tutorials about control objects and such (which I think the question might fall into).
