i know there was a post a while back where someone had set up bones in a wings3d model in LW and then brought it into MB, but anyone figured out how to do this without using another package yet?

Well I did a tail, so a wing (depending on how detailed) shouldn't be too much different.

the Naming for tail is Tail1 Tail2 Tail3, etc. so wing should be the same.

A tutorial on boning and skinning in MOTIONBUILDER will be soon available in our knowledge base (end of july - early august)

Hopefully this is still on schedule :)

I was able to take a character from wings into mb using fbx plugin. The I added bones and assigned weightmaps. I got one of the arms working, but I was having some problems and it was taking forever:rolleyes: So I wound up just using LightWave.... Had I know what I was doing I'm sure I could have pulled it off in mb. I'm hoping the upcoming tut will make things much clearer.

we can hope. your earlier post/experiment was what i was referring to chris, definitely helpful. i may do a bit of playing on my own but i'm a bit lost at this point, the tute will definitely help :)

and thanks roguenroll but not quite what i was referring to :D

its acctually not that hard... very tedious and not realy time efficent cause instead of painting the weighmaps on you have to select every vertices and assign it to bone(s).
this link (http://www.kaydara.com/customer_services/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1358&highlight=skin) might help you out.
