View Full Version : [How to?] : Gradient color Bckground
Larsen 08-01-2003, 04:20 PM It may have been asked on the forum but i didn't find anything about that.
I'll be interested to make a gradient color background like we see on a lot of images ( look to the attached pic ), it gives a nice and proper render, does anyone know some tricks to do that ?
The picture is from "Triple E Vfx"

well the easiest way would be to render with an alpha channel and add the background later.
but you could also use a background material for your floor and use a texture as image plane (simple lambert material with a ramp assigned to it)

Ok i understand the principle of removing the alpha channel but i encounter a problem, how can i take shadow and model in my alpha channel ?
thanks
create a nurbs or poly plane as a floor object. assign a "background shader" to it. set the specular and reflection settings from the background shader to 0. now you should have your shadow but no floor.
now just save as a iff, tiff or tga (they can contain the alpha channel), open it in photoshop and add the gradiant.

you could just apply the "background shader" to the NURBS plane, then open up at the attributes for the persp camera, and put a ramp node in the "environment" tab..... thats an all-in-maya solution :D
