View Full Version : What is the best way to go about texturing?
manosteele12 08-01-2003, 03:01 PM I keep reading stuff in the forum about z-brush and others that can paint on your geometry, but when you get a job doing this for a company how do they want their textures done? Is photoshop the standard? I just need to know what is worth learning. To me z-brush looks well worth the money.

Photoshop is the most popular in my experience. But company artists tend to use whatever works the best for them, whether it's Painter or Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop.
I would suggest using whatever gets you the best results for your portfolio. The tool isn't as important as the talent.
From what I've seen of ZBrush, with their 2.5D pixols technology, people tend to make similar too-shiny too-mushy art with it. Some artists get beyond that with the tools, but most apparently don't.
Photoshop is more well-rounded I think. You also have a better chance of being able to integrate with a team. Especially if they're sharing assets, like in .PSD format.
