1) I'm using maya 4.0 and find that the IPR sometimes is very unstable, it will halt the system when the scene is complex or when u try to tweak certain parameters e.g. on/off shadow maps for complex scenes.

just wonder if maya 4.5 or maya 5 got a more stable IPR, or with better fucntions like region IPR, etc

2) in fullr render or batchrender, Maya sometimes quit with "exception found, rendering aborted" error or "memeory exception". I have no idea what to fix when these error happens. any workarounds??? it make my rendering sheduyle very problematic!!!

thanks

IPR is very memory intensive and the memory errors you are getting me tell me that you may have very little ram. How much RAM do you have?

When you render it is best to do it from the command line as Maya will compete for ram if you have it open while batch rendering.

You can conserve ram in the IPR by hiding objects or using the render selected option in the Render Globals and focus on whatever you are currently tweaking rather than the whole scene.

You may also want to limit the numebr of undos as they can use alot of ram. It may also be a good diea to quit the program before doing alot of IPR tweaking and relaunch it so that you have flushed the ram beforehand.
