sMileGraPhix 08-01-2003, 01:37 PM Hi All, this is character that i modelling in Softimage|XSI.
i've had already post some pics in a past...the following images explain my actual situation in a modelling stage.
I've to finish the modelling of hand and need to fix some little problem to arms and someting detail :arteest:
i can't wait to see my model textured :)
more progress in a near future i hope!
so... C&C are welcome

wow amazing:eek:
Nicely modeled!! detail and yet clean.
Very nice work i can say!
All i can critic on is perhaps the breast... dunno why the front view it looks odd... hmm and maybe a close up on the knee area?
I also can't wait to see it textured:drool:

thanks Darakusan!
but, what do you mean with "odd" about the breast?
maybe i've done some errors following blueprint... possible...
i'll try to fix all problems after modelling stage... i want all parts complete before make refiniments... :p
BTW... and this is a Wire...

this is a little test of UV mapping with a temporary texture...
after modelling i must create all textures from the beginning...
what do you think about it?

Nice to see this model resurface again - and it looks like you've been hard at work at it too. Nice clean model and you've achieved it without having to have huge numbers of polygons.
The texture looks okay so far - the beaten up weathered look may well work, but I think I won't pass judgement on it just yet until you've got the metal part of the texture worked out.
Looks great!

thanks FallenSwordsman!
talking about the textures, i must create those from the beginning... dont worry ;)
the pic posted has been only the test...
this is first test to UV opening:

but i've to fix some problem in a critic parts...
see you to next upgrade ;)

Looking good to me!
One thing I think is that it doesn't look like there is enough room for priss to squeeze into the suit at the waist and uper torso... this could be why Darakusan thought it looked odd. But then again, I haven't seen Bubble Gum Crisis in a while so I can't remember exactly how they looked.
I love the battle damage texturing on the shins:thumbsup:
Keep up the good work:D

Looking really good....But the fin around the neck the part that looks like a boomarang should not sit up so high in the front ....
It is supose to lay flat on top of her breast area....
Otherwise looking really cool

Thanks to All for comments!
so... after your C&C there is one thing to say...
at the beginning i started the model with one think:"make Priss".
but, i decided to not follow carefully the Priss's Blueprint and make all refiniment following only my ideas ;)
an example? in the first texturing test, the surfaces were in a dirty white color... and not red-blue like the anime...
this is one change at the moment, will become many more in a future i think... when my scene will be complete.
i'm going to return to XSI now :p
bye All! :buttrock:

Hi sMile -
Unfortunately being on dial-up I haven't been able to see the animation yet! Got to wait until I'm back at work before I'm going to be able to do that, but from the images you've dropped by so far, I'm sure its going to be great. Hope you had a good holiday!
For those who want to know, the animation is 1.46 MB.
May I just ask how you've gone about modelling Priss here? Did you use spline modelling, box modelling or something else?
The HDRI renders look nice but you do seem to have some problems with seams on the legs - the rest of the seams in the body look great, its just you have seams going down the sides of the legs that look slightly less well modelled.
sMileGraPhix
08-31-2003, 11:47 AM
thanks FallenSwordsman!
i'm sorry for your connection.. i've posted 2 pics with the same illumination hdri, so you can see the result anyway...
for the modelling i've used polygonal approach, you can see the wireframe in a past post... The only pieces NURBS are the upper part of hull and the hole of visor is a trim.
talking about the seams on the legs... i can't see the problem. In a truth, the legs, are split in 2 elements to facilitate the insertion of woman's sub suit.... you've been confused due the shot of pics perhaps... in my opinion, looking 3D model in XSI, there isn't problems on the legs... or simply i like those in this kind ;)
so, i'm going to finish the unwrapUV of model soon, at the moment only the arms needs to be "open" for mapping.
see you at next progres
bye ;)

I agree with FallenSwordsman on those "seams" on the legs. Yes they are made to split on either side of the leg, so that the characters can actually get in, but when closed they are still rounded.
In the turnaround, it becomes extremely obvious since it looks like a hard edge runs down the outer side and the inner side of the legs. All we're saying is that they need to be more tangent there to maintain the smooth curvature of the female form.
Hope that helps:D

I like the HDRI renders, where is the map from? Model looks good, but the seam is as they said already. Other than that, the 'cloth' parts look a little to matt, they contrast loads with the metalic parts of the suit. Nice model tho, (I wana be able to do that - then keep working lazy!)

Hi All and thanks for your comments...
i'm going to talking about the legs of my model...
for the modelling i've been inspired from Priss's blueprint that i found on web... but my idea were this: "make a woman-robot's model"
and so... the name of my character is "Fake Priss"... because i didn't follow exactly the blueprint..
about the seams... you are in a truth... those lightly break the female form but i want it :p
i like the splitter line on the legs... make those more like a plate...
the hdr map that i used is from this site: http://www.debevec.org/Probes/
and the hdri renders are only a preliminary surfacing test... now i'm working for the UV mapping and i'm going to make a texture map due for all model's parts... the pictures that i posted are only to see model finished...
so... i'll be back soon with my character textured i hope
bye

Still looking pretty good - I think I'm a bit too much of a purist so having a white version of Priss goes slightly against the grain for me - but its your model and you can take it in whatever direction you want. The dirtying up looks good so far - all those dents and chips taken out of the hardsuit give it a bit more of a worn look rather than a shiney pristine look. Well done.

so than i'm following another texture's style...

but at the moment this...

I like that second test better than the first. The first one just seemed to have too many bumps in the metal, but the second one is more smooth and still has that weathered look.
Keep up the good work:D

Another little hdri render test...
i'm near to the level that i searching. About the metal, the last choise has been Black color! At last i prefere this for plate's material...
the little circles on a texture will be remove, i don't like those too much.
comments and critics are welcome ;)

Black as the chosen colour? That should look interesting when its finished. Are you going to make the entire hardsuit black or are you going to offset it with another colour as well? My inclination would be that it would look better offset with another colour like the red and blue of the original Priss. The texture is looking well made though, so I'll be looking forward to seeing how it goes once you've got some more done.

Hi FallenSwordsman!
the choise of black color is a test yet, i don't know the way that i'll follow for the last version of my Fake Priss.
At the moment i'm thinking to a grayscale offset of colors and not only black, but my idea should will be change..
Dark colors makes easy to create a dirty metal, so i should choise to make a test with another colors as blue or red, but in my mind i don't like the idea...
btw.. see you at new post ;)

ok FallenSwordsman! due your influence i've made this test with a dark BLUE and RED colors (about HDRI)... :arteest: and this is my latest choise
http://www.smilegraphix.it/temp/TEXTUREtst6.jpg
this blue is very dark and the red scratchs looks an hypothetical metallic sub surface. I think that the model will follow this kind of texturing.
what are your comments?
thanks Alla for the attention :D

Awesome work man!
I think that's great for the texture of the metal, but I really think you should stick with the color scheme of the actual hard suit. If you color it all like that, it's just going to be a big dark mess. The colors help to show where the different peices of armor are, as well as make it more visually interresting.
but that's just my opinion

some texture updated... sob sob, i haven't time to make all quickly... sorry guys.
this is the link to animation:
clik here to download the animation (http://www.smilegraphix.it/temp/hdri_text_1.avi)
the two thighs had the same texture at the moment... :(
so, at the end, the choise had been blue/red color's mix.
C&C are welcomed ;)

Ti saluto! Grazie ancora per il reply ;)

don't know why but I prefer her color as white and grey. just like you had her while modeling. she looks better with those colors instead of this one with textures.
Btw, I like you work. She looks great to me. keep going.

Wow! Looking good so far...
l'italia per la grafica in generale è veramente indegna!
Comunque per fortuna che qualche anima pia ogni tanto si salva.
Il tuo lavoro è estremamente interessante fino ad ora, vai di update che sono curioso di vedere come va a finire!

A beautiful model with great textures. My only problem is with the bolt looking things on the ankles.... If the lower leg is that beat up those bolts (since they stick out) should be just as beat up if not more so. But that's all of got to say. Great job.

Thanks All for Comment!
this model is going slowly.
My pc made a "boom" after my last modify to textures and than now i'm forced to make textures from the beginning..... fortunately, the model and UV setup were back-upped
i'm going to post other step for this model... than... come back soon ;)

Comparing those 2 images:
http://www.smilegraphix.it/temp/priss_WIPfull_5.jpg http://www.tokyo2040.com/gallery/designs/images/mecha-main-014.jpg
i would say your models ass and legs are too thin/small in relation to the helmet ( it's back is way to big ) and the torso.
Just an opinion.

your comment is right Monolith...
i have to adjust the model! soon i hope... i'm very occupied at the time
