Hi~~
i also using same script in pixho.com,like GI_Joe.....thats great~~
but HDR format has some function for tuning....and HDR is not same as any type of image format,i think HDR is simulate the real enviroment reflection.
so....Maya cant read HDR and cant use HDR function?
thx~~~

well..... there is a way to use .hdr format for ur maya scene.
go to get HDR shop. (search for it in google)
download it. and also remember to download the plugin for hdr shop which is for maya.
1)load ur hdr images in hdr shop.
2)change the size of ur image in to 128x64 pixels.
3)load the plugin that i've mentioned.
4)convert to a mel script.
5)boot up maya. open the files that u've created with a notepad.
6)copy everything in the file and paste it in maya's script editor. run it and it'll create all of the lights based on ur hdr image.

this is not the real HDR solution but i'm sure it render fastest. it just the matter of patient that u got to edit/tweak the scene. as for the reflections. save a copy of ur hdr (better be shot from a chrome ball) in to tiff format. create a ball environment map by using this image and connect this to reflective materials.
u can turn off ur raytrace. this render hella fast~!
