View Full Version : Graphic Cards and Lightwave
ThreeDBFX 08-01-2003, 07:22 AM Hey All,
I'm currently looking for a new graphics card for my comp.
I'm looking at the FireGL Workstation Series from ATI and the Quadro Series from nVidia.
Does anyone here have any experience with either or? I'm looking to see what others have experienced using these cards with Lightwave.
Thanks.

The FireGl cards are not so great,
The Quadro's are good, I have a 750XGL here, works flawless.
The Wildcat VP serie is good too

I would stay away from ATI, I believe there are driver issues with LW. nVidia is always a good bet imho...

how much faster is a quadro over say a radeon 9800
?
i mean some of the price tags are like $1000 bucks
is it really much faster?
The speed difference is not too big,
If i was to buy a graphics card today, i would buy a Gforce 4600 or a 3Dlabs wildcat vp560

I have a radion 9800 and it works great with lightwave. I have had no problems with it yet and it is very fast.

I have a Quadro4 980 XGL and I'm very happy. I like how it has custom drivers for each 3d app.
I can now turn on more Open GL effects and still have smooth previews.
No glitches or anything

Thanks for all the feedback guys.
Right now I'm using a GeForce 4 Titanium 4600, but I'm really diggin the Quadro series...lots of nice features and better performance. I'll prolly end up staying with nVidia.
Thanks!

I've used geforce cards and ati cards and honestly i've never really seen much of a difference between the 2 in either performance or compatibility.

Well, the thing that got my attention with ATI was the "More Bang for the Buck" factor. Seems that the ATI FireGL cards are less expensive the the nVidia models of the same level.
I don't wanna end up with something that's going to cause problems down the line....hmmm tough call I guess.
Thanks
