View Full Version : Light: Volumetric light intersecting objects. [Max 5.1]
erilaz 08-01-2003, 05:16 AM Okay, call me dense, but this should be a problem that's easy to fix.
I've got a volume light hitting a simple test object with a hole in it. However all the light is going THROUGH the model. I've been looking at the manual and I assume it has something to do with the shadowing samples, but I'm still getting this large cone interesecting the model.
Example attached.

What type of light/shadow generator do you use?
Because, I've launched MAX, and experimented with the shadow generators a bit, and it seems, that people at discreet still neglect the raytraced methods, such as "Raytraced", "Advanced Raytrace", and "Area" shadow generators when it comes to Volume light...
If you use one of the above listed (Or some 3rd party generator) no shadow will appear in the volume light. (Some 3rd party can, but...) So, my suggestion would be to change the light's shadown into a shadowmapped shadow, so that will be able to affect your volume light.
By the way, Brazil can handle Volume light perfectly with the Brazil light types. Area shadow effect in the Volume light etc... so it's cool if you're keen on raytracing shadows.
