Offical specs revealed in Japan. Other than the main CPU and memory there will be a GPU that is a combo of the Rendering Engine and Surface Engine with access to 2MB of VRAM at a 5.3 GB/sec bandwidth. There will be hardware support for polygons as well as curved surfaces(bezier, NURBS), morphing, clipping and others, anti-aliasing(?). The system's UMD disk is made up of 60 mm dual layered disk with can hold 1.8 GB, and the transfer rate is suppose to faster than the current DVD transfer standard. Also, the MPEG4 support has been explained, Sony will be using the AVC decoder, which has a high encoding rate, basically you could be watching a 2 hour movie at DVD quality. Sound support is killer, ATRAC3, AAC and mp3 with 3D and 7.1 channel sound. And the last tidbit is a wireless LAN support, which was demanded by game creators.

yeah, but in a previous press release they said that they want to price this thing to compete with nintendo's GBA.

Maybe itll be possible in 2005 when this thing is schedualed for release?

i'll buy it for two reasons:

1] if they good games to back it. i'm talking about games made from the floor up just for this system.

2] if they take full advantage of the USB 2.0 and Memory Stick features and let you listen to mp3s and other media files. wouldn't mind paying $150-$200 for a portable game system + mp3 player. while it's no ipod, it will serve as another purpose.

yes i hope it has support for memory sticks.
got loads for my camera that i dont use all that much so could do with another use out of them :)

the cost isn't the problem.

The cost is battery life.

They already mentioned you can use it for mp3's and movies, with a DivX player built in.
