View Full Version : Character: Coelacanth - Latimeria chalumnae
Zardoz 08-01-2003, 02:33 AM Hi guys
It has been a long time since my last post...so here goes a new thread with another fish...I wanted to do something with fur, but, I kind of enjoy making fishes. This one is a Coelancanth, also known as the dinofish...you can find some info here: http://www.dinofish.com/ .
This is a Lightwave model with 26000 polys...I wanted it to be a very high poly model.
This mesh is completely closed, and it took 15 days to create (1 or 2 hours a day).
I'm inserting it here in WIPs because I want to make it a Texturing wip. The geometry is supposed to be final (I will adjust it obviously), and I didn't used UV mapping very often, so I'm going to use this fish as an excuse to learn more UV mapping.

Thats a great model, just two points though.
I think the fish is on the thin side. Compare it to the pics posted below
The head looks a bit too wrinkly in my opinion. take a look at these reference pics, his head is more smooth

Good luck with the texturing

tx for the reply supervlieg. and yep, you are totally correct!...the thing is that I'm using as a reference a juvenile...I took the photos at our natural science museum...and the juvenile is really wrinkled (probably because it is in phormol for too long now...) but I'll take your advise in consideration and probably 'iron' it a little...
About being thin...you are correct again. I'll check that.
Again tx for replying.

Está simplesmente fenomenal!
É curioso, porque eu também gosto muito de fazer bichos em 3d.
Fica bem (votação 5 estrelas).
