please help

i just finished riging my character, now i would like to animate. I want to start by creating a walk cycle but im having a bit of a probleme. As i was riging my character i came across a tutorial on how to have a foot roll on your rig, I managed to get my rig done properly, but now when the times comes to animate im having problems animating the roll of the foot.

so When i go to animate my foot roll, i start by having the heal of foot pick up and the ball of the foot stay on the ground and be deformed as the heal picks up, but as i pick the leg to move forward i would normally want my heal to go down and rotate my foot so the heal of the foot comes in contact to the ground first. to do that i have to reverse the animation of my foot roll, and when i do that i get this jittery movement on my knees, because my foot roll seem to have an effect on my leg bones. so it ruins my fluidity of my legs movement.

so heres is a rundown of how my rig is. i have my legs are set up to animate in fk, then on my foot. i have 3 controller for foot rool. one is my ankle rotation, then i have a heal rotation ( my pivot for this one is on my heal, so when i rotate my toes go up and down), thirs one is on my toes (pivot is on the toe, so when rotating it , it moves my heal up or down). and also i have a expression set for my ball rotation so i have a deformation on the ball of my foot).

So What im thinking is that i need a seperate controler taht would control the deformation on my ball of the foot, without affecting my legs,. But i dont seem to come across any resolution, im not a rig expert, and i though this set up would be very good for animation. so if anyone has any idea on how i could add this controller to my rig i would apreciate

hey stryder_hiryu,

it's kind of hard to imagine your rig being on FK and still having a foot roll system. The ones I've come across are IK based, using a series of IK handles throughout the foot. Can you post the scene file or a video of some sort?

Good luck!

I personally don't like foot rolls. They just transfer the problem somewhere else. My solution would be not to use the roll and fix wobbly part of the animation frame-by-frame. Maybe you can zero the foot roll on the first frame after it leaves the ground and match the regular control by hand.

Not saying it's the best way, but that's how I would do it.
