Hello

you know I was recently watching Beowulf and I really was amazed by its ultra realistic Sea simulation.

the question is, does the whole story go in .for example. the standard 3d package's fluid simulation or custom scripts is combined with it and fluids to achieve that?

Is there any chance to see what's going on in practical point of view, any tutorial, any hint.. ??

thank you

There was a siggraph course on Surf's Up and you can get the notes here:

f*ck I haven't seen the film but there's some gorgeous looking renders in there. I'm going to read that properly and have a go at some of that stuff at home. Expect some awful renders posted over the next few weeks.

LOL! I nearly choked on my coffee.

On Topic: There was another cool wave generator thingy I saw done in XSI that was quite amazing, can't seem to find a link though. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

thats cool but just displacement i think... i'm sure I've seen a clip of some proper breaking/rolling wave generator in XSI. Also goin back to the surf up stuff, I'm sure someone posted a maya scene file of a nurbs plane deformed into a rolling wave... looked potentially good.

jerry Tessendorf from R&H has develop very popular ideas for creating CG ocean

check his website
http://tessendorf.org/reports.html

here is a famous publication on CG ocean,
http://www.finelightvisualtechnology.com/docs/coursenotes2004.pdf

basically he create a 2D RGB map containing various noise and he use those procedural noise to displace the surface.

Does anyone know if there are any maya plugins or scripts that use Tessendorf's method?

Pete

This (http://area.autodesk.com/inhouse/videos/siggraph_2009_psyop_mass_market) video shows more about the making of the milk shot, just clever expressions and lattice deformers. All wrapped up in a very nice interface.
