View Full Version : The Third and the Seventh, impressive
Eterea 07-28-2009, 06:06 PM The new work from Jorge Seva AKA Alex Roman, from Spain:
THE THIRD AND THE SEVENTH (http://www.thirdseventh.com/)
"Third" and "Seven", as Architecture and Cinematography are considered the third and seventh arts.
It's just my opinion, but I consider these as the best architectural CG images I have ever seen.
Please go to both the still images and movies in Vimeo. They are really superb.

Hi,
Do you know if he used EIAS?
I didn't get to see all the videos, but very nicely done on the still images.
Very photographic, excellent composition, and beautiful lighting.
I also love that he turned the lights on in the first video.
Thank you for posting the link.

As you can read on Vimeo (http://www.vimeo.com/5407991) it's done with 3dsmax, Vray, AE and Premiere.
And of course: tons of artistic and technic knowledge ;-)
Yes, Jens, it's all CG :-)
I was attending at a talk by Jorge some weeks ago in Mundos Digitales (http://www.mundosdigitales.org/english/noticias/almo_01.htm) and he showed us lot of wip and wires from these projects. Absolutely impressive.
Remember: this is a ONE person work. You can read more about Jorge Seva AKA “Alex Roman” HERE (http://area.autodesk.com/inhouse/bts/publications_by_alex_roman).

So realistic I thought I took a trip to a museum.
The camera moves really shows of the space in a more aesthetic way than if I had been there myself. Could really fell the texture, light and space.

So sounds like the grass was just a displacement map type of thing? And the trees had tens of millions of polys, I suppose rendered on a 32 bits system? Envy envy...

this is a great example of why you should learn about cinematography if you're going to do CGI, or atleast the difference between how a lens limits what the human eye can see as far a dynamic range and how focal lengths/aperture dictate DOF and how camera's are moved around in the real world...this is probably the most "real" rendering I've ever seen...

I completely agree Monday. While practice might makes perfect and talent will ease the pain, training is the only way to really shine and distinguish yourself. Combined, they lead to extraordinary results that is always a pleasure to admire. Beautiful work.

Strange: when I visited his site, I didn't see it there. Perhaps I didn't let the browser time enough to load it :curious: :p .
Do you know when he intends to post the finished film? I am really looking forward to it.

I have no idea, Juan. Maybe even Jorge/Alex himself doesn't know when the film will be finished.
AFAIK, Jorge took a sabbatical to do this work (since it's a personal project) but I don't know when exactly he started. And I don't know if he's progressing as planned or if it is going a bit delayed...
In the other hand, one person that seemed to know him privately told me in La Coruña (Mundos Digitales) that Jorge has direct contact with first-class architects (Norman Foster, Zaha Hadid, Calatrava...), and they call to him directly to make commissions. If that is true, maybe Jorge must combine his incredible personal projects, with these commissions... and, as you can imagine, this could cause a big delayed in his plans. Of course: take this only as a simple speculation... ;-)
In any case I will check The Third and the Seventh (http://www.thirdseventh.com/) site periodically...
