View Full Version : Maya's burnPaper fluid example...
DaneC020 07-28-2009, 05:46 PM Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone knows how to get that example to work? I have looked at all the expressions written for it and tried adding an emitter to the fluid among other things... No matter what I try I can't seem to get it working. I am trying to create a nice burning paper effect that burns from the words out and thought this might be good to look at.
Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks guys :)

I don't have Maya with me right now, but doesn't it come with notes in the notes section of all the relevant nodes explaining how it works? Most of the fluid examples do.

*slaps forehead*
Didn't even see the notes. First time really using one of their examples. I appreciate it and I am sorry for the stupid question. :)

You got to use the initial state on one of the fluids.
I did something similar but instead of using a fluid to create the paper I just animated a ramp in the transparency input to make the geo disappear by keyframing the color chips up the ramp. Then duplicated the ramp and added some nice super white/orange and input that into incandescence to get a glow along the burning edge.
From there I dup'ed the ramp again and emitted particles from this so now you have particle emitting along the burning edge. Now you could do a couple of things....one is to use the fire particles sample or alternatively emit fluids from particle position which involves a bit of mel but now you have fluids for fire.
Its also possible to use a texture to emit fluids from which would cut out the particles bit, but again you have to compile the plugin which is explained in another post somewhere on Fluids vs Fume FX thread.
All this plus a nice bend deformer to bend the geo as it burns.
