Iīm running Maya on WinXP, and getting very sick of my playblasts hanging all the time. If you donīt know what I mean, read here: http://www.alias.com/eng/support/maya/qualified_hardware/QUAL/maya_50_win.html;$sessionid$0NCZPHSLOH5N5QCLCWSSFEQ#spec-OS (www.alias.com/eng/support/maya/qualified_hardware/QUAL/maya_50_win.html;$sessionid$0NCZPHSLOH5N5QCLCWSSFEQ#spec-OS)

I canīt work like this, and I would like to rectify this situation. Question: Will a better graphics card fix this problem, or is the only solution installing Win2K? Anyone NOT have this problem on WinXP? If so, what graphics card are you using? Iīve changed my windows appearance to "Windows Classic Style" (not XP style), which seemed to help, but didnīt eradicate the problem completely.

yeah, i had an ati radeon 8500 before i switched and suddenly those playblast freezes ceased to occur!

might have been a driver issue though.

Thanks for the replies, guys- very interesting. I currently have an old GeForce2, and was considering updating to an GeForce FX-5600. My local dealer only has the G4Ti4200, not the 4600 which was mentioned in the post. Anyone know how well these mid-range FX cards work with Maya? The 5600 is not one of the high-end, Alias-certified cards, but itīs all I can afford at the moment...

 and thanks!

Although the Ti's aren't officially compatible if you check the compatibility listing I've got no probs at all with my 128mb Gainward Ti4200:) Still, I'm not handling massive advanced scenes yet. Not too surprised your GF2 was struggling though...

we use Ti's and FX at work... one guy even uses an ati... and no problems...

surprisingly the guy with the ati has had no problems.. i will try to see what his card is exactly...

it runs great on my quadro as well

soft quadro might be an option for nVidia users too...i gained about 10-15 % of wireframe viewport performance in maya after i'd virtually converted my GPU! :)

there's one solving of this problem. Go into compatibility of "Maya 5.0 shortcut" and change default setting to Win 2000 compatible.

on my ti4200 it works fine.
