Straight to the point, i've been doing the joan of arc tute in my spare time recently and i'm up to making the arm.
Anyway i've come across a problem, i follow the steps and target weld the center vertice (image below)

I then hide the edges so that i can work without them (image below)

Now what i didn't expect (i usually work in editable poly mode not editable mesh as the tute calls for) is that when i hide the edges the mesh still takes them into account.

What i'd like to know is there anyway i can treat the area with the hidden edges as if there wasn't ever any edges there?

Thanks in advance :D

Hey there,
if you're working with EMesh, then no, no way to treat an area as if the edges were not there, but you can still manage your way around : say you'd need to extrude these faces, they will extrude all together, be there edges or not.

What strikes me is that you could well be working in EPoly, if that suits you better, your pics show only quads. Why then wouldn't you be working in Poly, and in the end if you need to, convert to EMesh; you'll need to do some edge turning then, but then again so far i guess you've been hiding edges to manage quads, all in all it's no big difference to manage your hidden edges while you're modelling or at the end of your modelling session.
If you were using Polys you'd also encounter less problems and have a couple more tools to manage such situations, removing edges, dissolving faces..

Now if you want to keep using Mesh, then you could simply delete the ofending faces, and using the "create" command, create a new face that won't have an hidden edge in the middle.

hope this helps

in Emesh you just have to hide this edge, in Epoly you just can remove the Edge with the remove(Poly) function, which you should have as a shortcut :)

Backspace removes edges( and vertices), but keeps the surface, in Editable poly mode. "Edit triangulation" lets you edit the edges that are not seen.
