View Full Version : Weird fluid problem HELP!
Ramon 07-27-2009, 10:11 PM Hello all. I am very frustrated with trying to get the fluids in my scene (domain) to function properly.
I have a simple square for the domain.
I duplicated to create the fluid volume.
I hit tab and brought the fluid down to about a third of the height of the domain.
There is one obsticale that begins inside the fluid object then rises up out of the water.
So, that is the setup with all of the objects involved having there appropriate assignments (ie: domain, fluid and obsticale)
No fancy settings were used - 365 for resolution, 9.8 gravity, sur subd 2
The images indicates the problem. The final (or high resolution mesh) seems to get chopped off or disappeared somehow. I don't understand it.
Has anyone encountered something like this before?
Please let me know how to either solve this or not to get into this mess in the first place.
Thanks in advance!

Hmm, can't say I've seen that before. Hard to say with just those pics ... are you able to post the .blend?

Really hard to tell what's happening there without seeing the .blend file, so the following is only guessing...
The obstacle mesh is submerged in the fluid object, right?
Then at first, I'd check if the obstacle's boundary is set to "shell" in order to keep the fluid outside.
If the problem persists, you could try the following:
add a boolean modifier to the fluid object, and difference it with the obstacle mesh.
apply the modifier, if you like.
(if the problem still persists) select the newly created geometry inside the fluid object and scale it up a bit -- or downscale the obstacle, depending on how complex the shape is --, to make sure the fluid isn't touching the obstacle in any way.
Hope this helps.

Hey guys, thanks a lot for the quick reply and the desire to help me out on this issue. I really want the fluids to work correctly. I'm not at my home computer now but, when I get home tonight, I will try the suggestions and report back here.
Again, a big thanks in advance for the offers to help and the suggestions.
BTW, yes, the obsticale begins it's animation inside the fluid. Is there any other particular things I should know about having an obsticale beginning inside the fluid?

Hey guys, I'm on to a theory hear. On my friends computer hear at work (almost an identical computer as mine - Vista 64 / 2.66 core I-7 and he has 8 gb of ram while mine has 12gb) I believe the difference as to why the exact same scene calculates correctly on his and not on mine is that he is running 2.48 I believe in 32 bit on Vista 64 and I am running the 2.49 64 bit version.
Does that sound like it could be the problem? Any know problems with Vista 64 and the 64 bit 2.49 Blender with respects to fluid calcs?

I wouldn't suspect any of the aspects you've mentioned to be the issue. But you might easily try. Just get a 32bit 2.48a build (http://download.blender.org/release/Blender2.48a/) and run the sim again. If it runs correctly, you've got you victim.
Good luck!
P.S. just out of curiosity... why's your friend using a 32bit build on a 64bit OS?

Yeah, I have try , who knows.
About my friend, ah, hey doesn't use Blender too much.
Thanks for the link. I did verify his version and yes, he is using the 32 bit version on his 64 bit system.
By the way what version of Python works with Yafaray?
