Hello,
I want to texture a car tire and after some earlier advice, I decided to keep it simple and just "paint" a tread pattern using a photograph.
I went and placed a cylindrical texture support on my tire and after some minor scaling work in texture editor the tread pattern actually looks pretty nice.
The trouble is, I would like to have some textures on the sides as well (text mainly).
Shouldn't I be able to tear the polygons in the texture editor so that I have one island for the treads and one for the sides with different sub projections? I tried this, but I keep getting the side textures mixed in with the tread textures, even though they are not touching each other in the texture editor.
My tread texture is actually just a small squarish piece, which repeats itself nicely along the entire tire when used alone, but is this causing the trouble? Should I rather have a tread texture covering the entire tire, so it wouldn't be repeated at all?
Thanks!
