Hey guys..

I'm a Lightwave lover. I had a question about the Animation tools in Max? I keep hearing about Character Studio and wonder if it is worth checking out. I do love Lightwave, but can't help but wonder if many of the Lightwave Animation tools may be a little more difficult to use than they should be.
I am a very simple animator, and do animation more for fun than profit.

Thanks guys.

Quite honestly it doesn't matter what animation package you are using, each has different pros and cons. Character Studio can do a fantastic job, But then again, I've seen comparable, if not better, animations without it. In the end the outcome lies in the hands of the animator rather than the plugin. Even the most robust and powerful character animation tools can end up looking horrible without the skillset to accompany it.

I like to tell people that skill is earned, talent is achieved but without enthusiasm you are an unskilled talentless baboon.
(Whatever that means?)

I far prefer the max animation tools to the LW animation toolset. In addition to multiple undos, you can move and manipulate the keys in the timeline at the bottom of your screen in addition to using the curve editor and the dope sheet. You can also pose your whole character before setting the keys. This is true of its native bones (which I prefer) as well as its character studio plugin.
I also have to agree with clockwork though. In the end, it's the animator more than the package that makes a good animation. I've produced animation using both packages...However, for me, my tool of preference would be Max and/or Maya.
I'm not trying to knock LW as it does have its strong points...but if I had a choice to use one or the other for animation, i'd go with Max all the way.

Guess I was hoping for that magic yes or no answer. In my entire animation career I have never finished a project. I guess I was hoping that it was tool frustrations. I am just going to have to accept the fact that I procrastinate worse than anyone on this planet. Next thing you know I will be blaming my PC specs for my inabilities to finish a project. Darn I suck.
