View Full Version : Setting Background images
meloncully 07-31-2003, 06:07 AM How would i go about setting a background image in xsi that i can zoom up close to, to see greater detail when modeling?
i have tried rotoscope, but when u zoom in the image stays the same and only the geometry gets bigger. how would i make it so that the image stays one size and i can zoom in and that gets bigger as well as the mesh?

press down the icon shown below. That will lock the image to the grid.

Beware!!! if you use the F or A keboard shortcut you will loose the lock down. So always use the zoom or the S key.

Another way is to apply your ref image to a planar mapped grid with a constant material. This has the advantage that it never loses sync with your scene, because it's geometry. Also you can assign a 'display' property to it with textured/textured decal as the setting. This way it will always appear textured, no matter what the display mode.

and if you ever accidentally loose the camera lockdown.(rotoscope mode)... you can always press alt- z to undo the camera move. :) ( i find that key VERY useful!) .

I usually key the cameras (all the parameters, interest too) and if I get paranoid even save it separately
this saved me days of work (rework)
