In progress - considering the lack of reference material i.e. about 400 reference shots of the "Aliens" episode and a few scattered prop shots, the model has a bit of "artistic license" in order to fill some gaps. Modeled in LW 7.5 and GL screenshots from Maya 4.5. Time so far 13 hours part time @ 12,000 polys (give or take 2,000) Wireframe to follow.

Geocites is a pain so you have to kind of wrench the info out of them.

Enjoy!

the only things i can think of are,.,., i would add a bit of imperfection in the model, especially on the back flap pieces,

especially for a creature that is obviously designed for a carnivorous, and aggressive life pattern.,., i'm sure things have tried to fight it.,,
other than that, i'd enjoy seeing it without so much specularity.,., and textured (of course).,.,

look amazing though.,.,

At this point - no. She's not too bad to finish - got some clean up to do on her and then I'll be posting the finished model...and NO I'm not going to be surfacing her. The queen was just a project to benchmark myself against. 55 hours logged construction time (screwed around on the clock alot too) so far and all I have left to finish is her legs, shoulders on the outer arms and some other stuff. I've got new web space so I'll be able to post the images when I have a chance. Sorry for so little updates. Oh yeah, this is done in LW7.5 Modeler and going to be rigged and animated in Maya (Nothing says "I'm broke" quite like a new copy of Alias!).

On the contrary, its the queen, "she" wouldn't be doing pretty much any fighting, thats what "her" drones are for. Only reason in the movies ripley got to even see the queen was story development, with their hive structure etc the queen would be guarded pretty much at all entrances.
As for the specular, the aliens are pretty much covered in goop, whatever you wanna call it, so they are pretty darn shiny. :-P

To RedEye, great stuff man, can't wait to see the full body.

I'm playing with the idea of modelling the queen, here I thought I was the only one who'd ever be crazy enough to try it.

Nice job so far. You should check out the Mcfarlene toy's Alien Queen for reference. I've got it glaring at me on my desk, just screaming to be modelled.

I'll be watching this thread.
