View Full Version : how do u mirror an instance of an object?
drunkmonk 07-31-2003, 03:00 AM in max this is pretty easy, but im havin a problem figuring it out in maya .
I modeled half a face, all i need to do is mirror it, but i want it to be an instance, so i only have to move points on one side , and other side will follow, can anyone help me out real quick ? thnx

two ways:
Edit>Duplicate Options...set scale to negative X,Y, or Z and make it an instance.
Or
Modelling Menu Set...Polygons>Mirror Geometry>...
with mirror geometry you have to be careful because if your eyes in your head are open then it'll try to merge those verts across the mesh. Creating a undesirable stretching of polys.

Is there a way for mirror geometry to create an instance? I can't figure out how to make it do anything besides a simple copy.

yep in the duplicate option box there is a radio button that says Copy or Instance.

Yeah, I've got Edit->Duplicate, negative scale, instance option down OK.
I was curious about Polygons->Mirror Geometry. Can it create an instance?
