Electric is a free plugin for Max 4 that can be used for fire and lava effects. Apparently it doesn't work with Max5 (to my disappointment)

I'm wondering if there is a similar or comparable free plugin for Max5 so that I can achieve the same results as the tutorials I've read utilizing electric.dlt (www.3dluvr.com/machette for example).

I've been searching for the last couple days but no luck. Can anyone help me out? I'm really interested in creating some cool fire effects.

Thanks in advance

The tutorial mentions right at the beginning that it is possible to manually create the same effect electric does without using the plugin, but I don't even know where to start. If anyone has any ideas on a workaround that way, that would be great too

I too love that plugin, and I also know how to create it manually.

Make a noise map. In the "output" rollout click "enable color map". Make it look like the attached pic.

Click noise, and you've got it.

Give 'er a try.

3DZ,

Words cannot express how much I appreciate your help! I'm sneaking these posts in at work so cannot test it right now.. but rest assured I definitely will when I get home tonight!

Thanks again, I really appreciate it. This forum is AWESOME.

I only wish I had found cgtalk sooner.

We aim to please, bro. Glad to be of some help. You know, doing the "electric" look this way actually give you more control too.

Lemme know how it turns out for you.

That's weird, most of max 4 plugins work in max5.
Blur studio's electric texture works fine on my machine. But you might not be talking about this plugin.

InvaderZim,

Yep, that's the exact plugin I was trying to use.

As it turns out, JayCMiller tipped me off in another thread that the problem I was encountering was caused because I had not installed BlurLib.dlu, a file that is also available on Blur's website and is needed for a lot of their plugins! OOPS

So the mystery has been solved! I installed BlurLib and Electric works like a charm! Thanks to everyone for your help, without you guys I wouldn't have had any options and now I have two (manually or with electric).

Peace!
