View Full Version : making rims for a car...
This is by far the hardest part of the car IMO. Anyway found a tutorial sort of but what's he doing to get from here (http://home.raz.ro/tutorials/masina/imagini/r5.htm) to here? (http://home.raz.ro/tutorials/masina/imagini/r8.htm) (I have tried e mailing him...)
I have made some pretty nice rims but meshsmooth destroys them completely.

After ive tried rhino 3d, rims is so easy for me to made. I have had a hard time trying to model them in 3ds max, with splines, polygon by polygon, but i think its too difficult. You should give rhinoceros a try, also when making the body of the car - it is really a great program for modelleling cars.
Here is a tutorial for making a rim in rhino:
http://market.renderosity.com/~rhino/spiketuts/rim/rimtut.htm
it's good if you have never touched the program before.

bested, I don't think telling someone to use another software is an answer to their question, especially with the prices of the softwares in question. A rim can easily be modeled in max, if you can't, it is just inexperience not the software that is to blame. Try that tutorial, read the thread "theoretical sub-d" in this forum, and you will be on your way Big!

 No need to be sorry:) I just thought since this is a 3dsmax forum, we should offer help in 3dsmax. With software so widely available, people are quick to recommend using every application under the sun. BUT in a real world environment, a studio for example, they would expect you to know how to use max to finish the project. Rhino is a great nurbs modeler, but asking your employer to buy you an application because you don't know how to do something would be unacceptable IMO. Anyway my post was nothing personal, just an observation.

I'm pretty sure u can use that exact technique in max... idon't use NURBS much but I don't think i've seen that project to upper surface that they show in Rhino
