Hi to all, the chair of my chapter sent me this:

Hi friends!
I wanted to ask all of you a favor. Please pass this on to your friends, contacts, social networking sites, and various circles of influence.

We will have 77 high school students from New Orleans at SIGGRAPH on Wednesday, 8/5. We currently have 3 mentors signed up for the students. We need a lot more mentors!

The commitment is a half-day on Wednesday. The time and minutes people spend with deserving high schools to provide career insights can positively impact a students’ life. The students will have a conference badge and are able to experience SIGGRAPH.

Please pass this along to your friends and peers who may be attending SIGGRAPH in New Orleans. We really could use more mentors. Giving back to high school students is wonderful and rewarding. So, I hope your friends will find interest in joining us.

People that are interested in participating simply need to sign-up online.

Depending on my student volunteer schedule, I may be able to help. That still hasn't been released to us yet, but hopefully I won't have a shift that day.

I volunteered for an afternoon. Nothing like corrupting impressionable youth.

I'm in :) Thank you to everyone who's giving back. New Orleans really needs it.

Hey Roberto, do you know if they have expectations about a mentor's experience level? I'd be glad to sign up, but my experience is limited to school and a couple small freelance gigs. Can I still be useful if I'm not exactly a veteran in the industry?

When you apply it asks how long you have been in the industry. I am assuming if they don't think you are qualified, they will not choose you.

No idea,
Hell I am not even sure they will pick me.

Anyway Good luck to all who volunteered.
