hey!!

i think we need a sticky f.a.q at the top of this forum, and i shall tell you why. because i have a problem, that is gonna be very easy to fix. also , it has probably been asked a million timees before. so i'm gonna embarrass my self by asking the simplest question ever...... here goes......

i downloaded IK-JOE yesterday. ( fab!!)
i was happily animating my character when i noticed that...

1. his feet keep going through the floor....

now i'm sure it's easy to fix. ( i think it could probably be done in the graph editor. but there you have it. a very simple problem that has wasted another thread.)

also i had this ik-joe specific problem......

when im walking my character, is it ok to take him out of the circle? ( the one that is used to select the whole skeleton)

or should the circle move around with him?

i was just moving the pelvis and getting the feet to follow. ( which left the circle where it was)

hmmm, any thoughts on this?

cheers!!

p.s we need a sticky f.a.q thread like the one in the general maya forum.

ta!

To answer your first question. In the graph editor, make sure that wherever his foot is touching the ground in the translate Y (just make sure its Trans Y, it could be something else), that the curves are linear and not spline. This way, it will be flat and not float into negatives.

It's not really a big deal if your character leaves the circle, but you should obviously prevent him from going off too far, other wise everytime you want to grab the entire character, you've got to search for the circle. You might want to animated his transation via the circle and this way you will keep him in the circle pretty much the whole time.

Hope this answers your questions

About your first question do the boxes that control the feet also go thru the floor or just the feet, and the boxes stay?

And your second question: I have found it hard to mach up the feet with the translation of the circle. So most of the time he was sliding. I only use the circle to place him in the scene or if I want to animate his visibility, atherwise I dont touch the circle.

hey!!:wavey:

thanks for the replies guys.
i think loked nailed the first question with the graph editor. i thought that was how you would do it but i just wasn't sure.

nottoshabi: i too tried to animate his legs while using the circle to move him around i kept getting the sliding effect too. then i did it by using the pelvis for the translate movements of the whole character and that worked out much better.

now i am having trouble with rolling the foot as it leaves the ground. because the toe controls have no translate values (only rotate) i have to use the ROLL JOINT on the foot then move the whole foot accordingly. which seems a little hard to do at the moment. tho i could be doing it wrong i guess.

thanks again for the replies.

cheers!!
