Hello, we are starting work on making a toohtpaste advert, I thought I would solicit suggestions on how to make the toothpaste come out of the tube.

Can't you extrude a circle along a spline and animate the Growth of the extrude, from 0 to 100%? That'd do it.

Absolutely, but there is the small pointy bit at the ends where the tube starts and stops squirting. They are very keen on this bit.

Apparently there are specialist people who do the toothpaste tube squeezing thing to get that little bit (still takes about 50 tries though).

O I C, you want the tube leaving the toothpaste behind, mmm, tricky. Animating points of a Hypernurbs cage might do it with some judicious HN weighting.

couldn't you model the toothpaste with the pointy end bit and then animate it using the spline deformer? not sure on the details though, I'd have to have a go myself, but something along those lines I think

Thanks Squidinc - that's a good idea. I'll have a go at that too. Let me know if you get anything.

Got to make the toothbrush, 6 different pastes and the comp it all with some particles etc. all int two weeks!

Hi!

You might want to consider using a sweep nurbs object that is animated along with the tip of the toothpaste tube then at the last few frames switch it with an editable version with a tip that relaxes as the tube pulls away. I would blend the two shots in post.

A possiblility?

Heres my meager contribution. The invisible tube :p

Looks good Joel, care to share what method you used.

you prob wanto animate the little tail end though so it flops down after the tube lifts away as toothpaste does in reality.

I agree.

It was a quickie just to get the ball rolling.

It was sort of what Wes already mentioned.

Its a swept circle on a spline with a deformer on the end. I would addd the tube to follow the spline. Adding the little curl to flop down at the end would make it a little more realistic.

Heres another try:

Great stuff guys, I am still messing with multiple spline deformers which seems to be working really nicely.

Will send in a clip in the next day or two (off to see a client today)
