I don't know that you can do the exact images like the link you provided - Fractal Effect should do what you want here.

The closest you can get (for free at least) is AEFlame here (http://www.andrewdavidson.com/aeflame/)

It looks really nifty, but is a MASSIVE render hog. If you have lots of time and a great computer, you can probably do some cool things with it. The settings are a little hard to understand at first but it becomes clear what everything does if you tweak with them for a few hours.

There are also third party applications like Apophysis that can do similar fractal designs, but you have to use scripts to render them out.

aeFlame is it!. ive used it before way, way back so i imagine that it would be better by now with todays computers. ( quad cores and stuff?! )

plus, you could always. set up one of your machines to render the background as you work /render other passes elsewhere. :D its not so bad.

anyway thanks guys!.

It seems to run great on my core i7 machine; at least until I tried rendering 900 frames of fractal glowyness at 4k x 3k :D That took a little while to finish...
