SPEED!!! Editing my model has slowed down to a crawl. It is not big, I have deleted the subd history, and redone the topology, but moving vertices still takes forever. Any ideas at all, I'm clueless as to what else to try. I don't even have any level 1 vertices, just level O. Any good tips on how to handle Subds also will be well appreciated, thanks in advance!!!

have you changed any level in the standard mode so far? if not you can copy the polygonal cage (and disconnect it from any subdivision node) and convert it to a subdivision again and see if it is any faster

- limit your undoes to 20 something

Deleting the sub shape and reapplying the convert to sub-d will work great as long as you don't have hierarchal edits on the sub-d. Another thing you could try is to use the flushUndo command to clear all of the undo history from memory.

Hey pinion3d

How do you use the flushUndo? I didn't found anything called, not even when I searched in the help.

just open up the script editor, type flushUndo and hit enter (on number pad).
Not sure if it will help in your situtation, but it's worth a try.

hmmm..... why don't u model ur character 1st by using fake subD (CPS tools from highend3d) and convert ur model in to maya's subD in the end?
atleast it works faster for me.
btw, i remember there is an attribute on switching some sorta mode in to proportional mode in one of the setting. what does it do actually?
i've tried switching it in to proportional mode but it doesn't do any difference.

Thanks for the input I'm still not sure what it is, maybe it's that damn caustic plugin (what a laugh, did anyone even manage ONE render from that thing?) I will reinstall maya and see what happens.

I have an AMD 1300, and the model is just simply not that complex, and speaking of complex KFC is a demon, check out his models guys (link on his post).

So I don't think the undo tweaks are it either. I deleted the history too so that can't be it. I have almost a gig of ram so that can't be it either. I'll let you guys know how it goes after the reinstall though. Thanks tons!

KFC - I think your workflow is pretty rad man, you've given a lot to think about, thanks :))
