View Full Version : 3d studio max 5 Help Tutorials...HAH????
elektroharmonix 07-30-2003, 08:55 AM Alright...I just registered at CGTalk a couple of days ago and I've read some pretty inspirational things here. But sometimes the only inspirational thing that will aid you in your quest is when you actually ACHIEVE something during that quest. I just got 3D studio Max 5 and since I am a newbie at 3d modelling, I decided to do the tutorials that came with the program. All went well until I had to model the Knight in the chess set. What is up with that damn knight? I cannot get it to work period....maybe it's a newbie problem...but I dunno...I feel kinda stumped. I was wondering how you guy's first experiences with programs went? Was there a point where you guys felt like you could never pick up the software and use it to your needs? Right now I feel like just replacing that damn dirty knight model with like a sphere or sumthin. :annoyed:

Hey there, i think we all had a moment of despair at one point or another, and actually from the threads that pop up every once in a while, i think this Knight tut has given lots of troubles to lots of people. But it should not matter, if you're stuck on it, then maybe you should try to move on to another tut, leave that for later, find yourself another tut covering the subjects...
My point is, it's good that you actually question yourself about what you're able to do and so on, and keep in mind that you won't be modeling god-like in 2 days, so just keep practising, that's what everybody does.

Hey mouj, thanks for the reply. Of course my plan is to keep practicing in order to attain my goal. It's just a bit "in rough waters" at the moment. Im still amazed at what 3D studio max can do and what you can create by pullin sumthin outta ur ass like that...its incredible! It kinda drives you to persist with the dang cryptic software....
