Hey everyone,

This is no joke. There is hope for parties and fun this year! I was told by reliable authority that the ACM SIGGRAPH Chapters Party 2009 will be on Monday August 3rd 2009 at an amazing New Orleans club. Details will be announced soon at www.siggraph.org (http://www.siggraph.org/).

Yes! So, stay tuned and I'm sure someone will be posting all of the details as soon as they come.

You know you don't need to start a new thread for every party right :-P.

On the other hand I find it strange they're having it Monday. It's usually Wednesday or Thursday, give a chance for people to arrive and find about it. And Monday is even worse, that's when the Fast Forward Papers Preview is.

True true. But, there are a couple threads just concerning "the parties at SIGGRAPH" so I wanted to just organize it a little more.

I find it strange they are having it Monday too. You would think they would let everyone get to know each other for a least a couple days, then have a party to celebrate. It sucks that it's on the same night as the Fast Forward Papers Preview too. Lame-o!

The only redeeming part is that the Chapters party usually goes on till the wee hours of the night, so you could still make it to the Chapters party. Hopefuly they'll choose a spacious site. Margaritville was cool last time but it got really crowded (but was lucky to arrive there early).

It sucks that it's on the same night as the Fast Forward Papers Preview too. Lame-o!

Time of the Chapters party will be 8:30 pm to 2 am. So plenty of time to get there after the Papers preview.

I had no doubt there would be a Chapters party! Although, I am happy to see it confirmed - since the Autodesk traditional Annual USergroup event seems to be cancelled this year - which makes me bummed! That said - I think last year the Chap party was same night as Autodesk - which was a bummer - since I missed the Chap party for that reason!

And - I am quite glad someone found me a good party to go to this year - as things were looking a little bleak for a while there...

Excuse my ignorance, but do you have to be an ACM member to get into the Chapters party?

Putting my schedule together now and trying to decide which days to attend.

No, you just have to attend SIGGRAPH. In the old days (when the party was Wednesday or Thursday), you would need to pickup a free invite at the convention center (like a postcard) or they let you in by showing your badge.

Oooops, by the way, Chapters Party will be held at Generations Hall, just a couple blocks from the Convention Center. More details here:

LOL, just noticed that party.siggraph.org claims the chapters party is Autust 11th. Can assume this is a typo? :-)

The link seems to say that the date of the party is 8/11--on a Tuesday

Yeah a typo, haha. August 11 is after SIGGRAPH. Unless it's only a party for straglers.

At least now the official party site is more or less up.

Haha! Not a problem macmayaguy.

I'd hope that's a typo. And you'd think they would make sure to get something as important as the date right on that page. Goes to show the amount of stress that goes into the convention.

The site says the party is Monday, August 3rd now - not the 11th. Phew!

Sorry I didn't post here sooner. The Chapters Party is indeed on the 3rd from 8-2. And, its at Generations Hall. As always, the Chapters Party is open to all conference attendees. There is no cover. But, BRING YOUR CONFERENCE BADGE!! This will get you in the door.

It was your typical chapters party. Though by the time I got there seems everyone I knew had already left. The good thing was that the layout of the place had spots where you could have a onversation, away from the dancing floor.
