This is an older piece I did for my portfolio (you can never have too many big robots).

This was painted in Photoshop 6 and is the first all digital piece I did. Most of the time I start out with pencils and paint over them in Photoshop but this one was done start to finish in PS6.

Very impressive, I am not a huge robot fan, but the sky and buildings look very nice.

In that you're a fan of robots, but you're not a very big person? Or that the robots can't be too large? :D

Personally, I'm a huge large robot fan of medium build. Bloody good work, Kohse.

I suggest to you, that you should rename your topic, otherwise it will be deleted.

Almost there....but not quite!

The background look too different from the robot, meaning
your robot is clean and relatively precise, but the background
such as the building construction are unprecise and uneven
so much so you can't entirely blame it on the chaos or the war.
Other details - eg. the windows to the left, some of them look
like they're just "smoothed/blurred" out while others have
detail to them.

You should also have made the whole composition DEEPER
meaning you background AND robot should have ligthing that
correspond to each other which in my humble opinion
doesn't quite match.

Other than that - I like your picture.

Cheers,
SketchPad

Why would a post with the subject of Big Robot get deleted? After all it is a big robot?

glad you guys lik it.

Sketchpad: I increased the contast of the robot to focus the viewers attention on it. The robot itself is pretty beat up, so I can only assume you mean that the lines are sharper by saying its precise. The robot is what is in focus so the rest of the image has a slight blur with the exception of the building to the left that is closest to the robot. The blur is exponential to the distance from the focus. Keep in mind this is an art piece. The building are slightly off to give a sense of chaos to the lack of action in the piece. I was not attempting to creat a totally acurate photographic quality image or a matte painting, I wanted a piece that was entertaining. You're right on the lighting, I should have made the lighting match better. Once again it was to keep the viewer focused on the robot and not have the detail around it steal the show but I should have done a better job on the elements directly around the roboot.

No, I mean what I said - to be more precise - > the construction on the robot is far better than
the construction in the background (craftmanship if you will).
I know that you are trying to keep the attention focused on the robot and that's good

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I'm blonde.

Melmann: I did this off and on for about 2 months during lunch and between projects. It was drawn at 16X20 and 300 dpi to ensure the detail was sharp. All in all I would say about 2 weeks worth of work.

I tried changing the name of this thread to "Scene: Mecha in war torn city" but it didnt take. Instead of changing the thread title it just changed the subject of my initial post.

Anyone got a suggestion?

It looks good, but of course it gets my standard giant robot critique: Why would someone make giant replicas of human guns for the robot to carry?? :curious:

The city looks good though, and the one-way sign is a nice touch.
