Most likely any artist looking at the following job listing knows Naughty Dog’s reputation for its graphics polish and detail. The main ingredient to this reputation is simply time consuming, meticulous work by elite individuals. For this reason we look for candidates with proven industry track records, who don’t shy away from challenges. Due to our relatively small development staff and firm deadlines, each team member should be able to budget their time wisely, be able to work self-directed and be flexible with edits. All candidates should expect to take a test.
Although resumes are required, all candidates must also submit reels or portfolios of work, along with exact breakdown of contributions to the materials submitted. Please indicate the position for which reels are being submitted for. Submission can be sent to Bob Rafei, Art Director, by email: br@naughtydog.com. Or sent to our Santa Monica, CA office;

Re: (applying artist position)
1315 3rd Street,
Suite 500
Santa Monica, CA 90401
(Sorry, no internships or student works.)
Particle artist:
This full time staff position also requires extensive professional history, preferably CG F/X. This patient and meticulous individual will use our proprietary particle renderer to solve a wide range visual problem: dust kicked up by walking characters, elaborate weapon’s munitions & effects, explosions, falling water, glows, butterflies…all without the use of a mouse. Our text-based, non-gooey interface works more like a programming tool versus an artist interface, requiring input of countless “commands” and “calls” for the needed effects. Though experience with Maya is not necessary, higher knowledge of MEL scripts is preferred to insure full transition into this position. Candidates should expect to take a specifically structured test in Maya. Submitted reels and portfolios must include examples of professional work and an exact breakdown of your specific contribution to the material submitted along with resume featuring references.
