Most likely any artist looking at the following job listing knows Naughty Dog’s reputation for its graphics polish and detail. The main ingredient to this reputation is simply time consuming, meticulous work by elite individuals. For this reason we look for candidates with proven industry track records, who don’t shy away from challenges. Due to our relatively small development staff and firm deadlines, each team member should be able to budget their time wisely, be able to work self-directed and be flexible with edits. All candidates should expect to take a test.

Although resumes are required, all candidates must also submit reels or portfolios of work, along with exact breakdown of contributions to the materials submitted. Please indicate the position for which reels are being submitted for. Submission can be sent to Bob Rafei, Art Director, by email: br@naughtydog.com. Or sent to our Santa Monica, CA office;

Texture artist:

We are looking for an additional Photoshop pro. Again, two years minimal experience and rudimentary 3D modeling skills are required. This full time position works close with our environment modelers to apply textures to a variety of models ranging from: gardens to weathered battle fields, cliff faces to rusted hinges or bullet holes, animal fur to shiny metals. This individual must find innovative ways to stretch limited texture memory, tile without looking repetitive, understand when to desaturate for better vertex color shading, and be flexible with artistic styles- yet confident enough to fill in details missing in concept art. Experience with Maya’s Hypershade editor, as well as other high-end 3D pixel shaders are not mandatory, but are preferred. Submitted portfolios must include samples of professional work, examples of textures as well as their final application, and an exact breakdown of your specific contribution to the material submitted along with resume featuring references.
