Most likely any artist looking at the following job listing knows Naughty Dog’s reputation for its graphics polish and detail. The main ingredient to this reputation is simply time consuming, meticulous work by elite individuals. For this reason we look for candidates with proven industry track records, who don’t shy away from challenges. Due to our relatively small development staff and firm deadlines, each team member should be able to budget their time wisely, be able to work self-directed and be flexible with edits. All candidates should expect to take a test.

Although resumes are required, all candidates must also submit reels or portfolios of work, along with exact breakdown of contributions to the materials submitted. Please indicate the position for which reels are being submitted for. Submission can be sent to Bob Rafei, Art Director, by email: br@naughtydog.com. Or sent to our Santa Monica, CA office;

Background modeler:

Our backgrounds have always been the backbones to our games. We are looking for an individual with a minimum of two years previous industry experience, preferably in Maya. This candidate should be comfortable with modeling a varied range of environments from lush forests to barren wastelands to highly detailed city blocks. Responsibilities include translating concept design sketches into 3D, using instances to structure the majority of the scene, assembling instances around a very specific level layout 2D map, creating cheap, yet effective collision to represent final 3D geometry, and executing all this within framerate & memory constraints. The candidates’ sense of composition, balance and artistic style will play a major role in selection of the finalist. Candidates should expect to take a modeling test in Maya. Submitted reels and portfolios must include examples of professional work, 3D turntables, and an exact breakdown of your specific contribution to the material submitted along with resume featuring references.
